This role is classified Remote, with up to monthly travel to our Columbus and/or New York offices. Annual international travel to India is also a possibility in this role.

 

Your Role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of UX Research and Strategy to lead our user experience research initiatives and shape strategic design decisions across our products and services. This leadership role will guide a multidisciplinary team in discovering deep user insights, driving customer empathy, and translating research into actionable strategies that align with business goals.

Reporting to the AVP of UX, you’ll champion a research-driven culture, mentor UX researchers and strategists, and work closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, engineering, marketing, and analytics. You will play a critical role in creating an intuitive, visually appealing, and high-performing digital experience that drives conversion, customer retention, and brand loyalty across all platforms and markets.

Your Impact

 Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and drive the UX research and strategy vision, ensuring alignment with company objectives and customer needs.
  • Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing team of UX researchers and strategists.
  • Advocate for a user-centered approach to product and service design at the executive level.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering leaders to prioritize research and ensure insights are embedded into roadmaps.

Research Operations & Execution

  • Establish scalable research practices, frameworks, and tools to support both generative and evaluative research.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative studies, including usability testing, ethnographic research, surveys, diary studies, fieldwork, and more.
  • Ensure the consistent application of best practices in research ethics, data privacy, and accessibility.

Strategic Insight & Impact

  • Translate user insights into actionable design and business strategies.
  • Identify emerging user behaviors, trends, and unmet needs that could inform innovation and long-term product direction.
  • Create compelling narratives and artifacts (e.g., personas, journey maps, opportunity frameworks) to socialize research findings.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with stakeholders across product, engineering, design, data science, marketing, and customer support.
  • Influence key decisions on product direction, feature prioritization, and experience quality.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executives and other senior leaders on user experience and design innovation.

Minimum Salary : $148,000.00
Maximum Salary : $209,790.00

VS&Co provides an estimated range of compensation for this role as shown. Your actual compensation will be determined by a number of relevant factors, including but not limited to your specific skills, experience, & geographic location.

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • User-Centric Advocate: Deep commitment to understanding and advocating for the end user.

  • Research Expertise: Expertise in a broad range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

  • Complex Problem Solving: Demonstrated success in translating complex user needs into clear, strategic direction.

  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Positive Leadership: Approaches challenges constructively, inspiring the team through positive engagement.

  • Educational Background: Advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Sociology, Design, or related field.

  • Industry Experience: 10+ years of Research, Strategy, and/pr Consumer Marketing experience, with a significant focus on leadership roles.

  • Tool Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency with industry-standard research tools and data analysis platforms including Adobe Analytics and Quantum Metric.

  • Technical Understanding: Awareness of web and app technologies and their relationship to UI development best practices across browsers, iOS, and Android apps.

  • E-Commerce Expertise: Experience in e-commerce design is critical, preferably within specialty retail.

  • Business and Creative Goals: Demonstrated ability to deliver on both business and creative objectives through innovative strategic solutions.

  • Management Experience: Previous experience in a managerial role, with a focus on developing talent and driving team performance.
