Your Role

The Senior Legal Manager will support the daily work of the Marketing & Retail Operations Legal team with a focus on matters related to in-store and online marketing collateral, social media engagement activities, contests and sweepstakes, influencer campaigns, charitable co-promotions, pricing and promotions, as well as other retail issues such as point of sale compliance, return policies, gift cards, website accessibility, etc. In addition, the Senior Manager will also support and lead additional projects across the Legal Retail Operations team. The Senior Manager will work closely with other members of the Legal team and cross-functional partners, including members of the Marketing, Digital, MP&A, Finance and International business teams.

Your Impact

The Senior Manager must: 

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key stakeholders across multiple brands and functions

  • Serve as a strategic and practical expert on marketing and other consumer protection laws, regulations and industry standards (including FTC Guidelines)

  • Provide practical, business-minded advice and partner with stakeholders to identify creative solutions to mitigate risk

  • Manage enterprise-wide projects to ensure compliance with legal requirements, including creating processes and reference documents 

  • Develop training materials and conduct training to educate and train relevant teams on legal requirements

  • Assist with and manage litigation related to marketing and other consumer protection legal requirements 

Marketing:  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners on marketing and/or customer-engagement initiatives and campaigns involving pricing, promotions, contests, sweepstakes, charitable co-promotions, direct marketing, digital/social/mobile media, and loyalty programs

  • Advise on and oversee the charitable co-promotion registration process

  • Draft and maintain terms & conditions for customer touch points and services (e.g., contests and sweepstakes, websites, loyalty programs, gift cards, coupons, and promotional offers)

     

Retail Operations: 

  • Advise cross-functional partners on consumer protection legal requirements, which may include point-of-sale compliance; payment card, gift card, and promo card compliance; website accessibility; and translation requirements. 

  • Provide guidance on traditional and in-house credit card programs, as well as gift cards and promotional cards. 

  • Create and support compliance programs, such as “Francization” for compliance with Quebec’s Charter of the French language

  • Support compliance with digital accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Canada’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the European Accessibility Act (EEA)

Salaire Minimum : $110,200.00
Salaire Maximal : $150,360.00

Qualifications

Your Experience

  • BA/BS degree or practical experience required 

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house setting (paralegal experience is a plus)

  • In-depth knowledge of marketing and other consumer protection laws, regulations and industry standards  

  • Exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills

  • Positive, optimistic outlook that thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environment

  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to explain complex concepts effectively to business teams 

  • Solution and results oriented, with the ability to prioritize and deliver key initiatives
